Some Common Myths About Massage

1) Massage has to hurt.

Massage doesn’t have to hurt!  Good massage is about your comfort level.  It’s also about communication.  I listen with my ears as well as my hands.  Good massage is about you.

2)  Massage has that cheesy new-age music.

Massage is about choice.  I’ve given massages to the tunes of Enya, World Cup Soccer, and AC/DC.  What music works best for you?

3)  I have to get naked.

Relax.  You can disrobe to your comfort level.  I’m very good at what I do, so there are many things I can work around.  Belts and bra straps can make things a little more difficult but if that’s your comfort level than that’s just fine.  That being said, working directly on skin is most effective and efficient.  While we’re on the subject, I’d like to mention this: massage is about your senses.  But a professional massage is not sensual.  It’s about trust, and communication.

4)  Massage is only for serious athletes.

Massage is for everyone.  It can help with muscle, joint, and back pain; exhaustion; anxiety; as well as stress and tension relief.

5)  Massage is a luxury / Massage is expensive.

You go through your life feeling.  Being who you are.  Is it really a luxury to feel good in your skin?  You take care of your car, right?  Oil changes, regular maintenance.  The human body really isn’t different – it benefits from regular maintenance too.  But if you really can’t afford me, I am willing to negotiate.  I want you to feel good in your skin.  If money is what’s holding you back, let’s talk.

FAQ
How often

I have never had a massage:
    What will I experience?

I like deep work, can you go deep enough?  Yes,  I can cripple you, but I'd really prefer to not!  I have left professional athletes in tears and/ or unable to sleep that night.  For the most part, there are usually softer, more effective ways to get the muscle to relax.

I was told I have "tight  muscles/ adhesions"  can you treat those?   Yes.  Most of the time, when people have adhesions, it's actually just bands of fibers that are stuck in a pain-reflex tightness feedback loop.   This can be easily found out, as adhesions can ONLY be opened by force, where as softer, neuro- reprogramming techniques are much more effective at releasing contractile tightness.
